Refrigeration Technician

Location: Gonzales, California
Pay: $24.00 per hour +DOE
SUMMARY: The Refrigeration Technician performs major mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on the Ammonia Refrigeration, Air, Fire and Industrial Water systems for the entire facility. This position ensures the safe reliable and efficient operation of all plant refrigeration machinery and equipment in assigned areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
Adheres to the Risk Management Program (RMP) and Process Safety Management (PSM)
Adheres to the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP)
Adheres to the Hazardous Material Business Plan (HMBP)
Refrigeration Control System monitoring throughout shifts
Yearly teardown and setup of the Vacuum Tubes and Ice Machine
Assist contractors with installation of all new refrigeration equipment
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot all refrigeration equipment
Perform yearly calibrations to refrigeration equipment as needed
Perform major mechanical repairs and services on refrigeration equipment.
Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment in the Industrial Wastewater area
Maintain, troubleshoot the Facility fire alarm and fire riser systems
Utilizes proper protective equipment (PPE) as needed
Maintain and organize work areas in audit ready condition
Perform preventative maintenance (PM’s) and corrective maintenance on all equipment
Assist other departments to avoid down time as needed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
1-3 years of dedicated ammonia operator experience preferred or willing to train
RETA – CARO Level certification preferred or within 5 years of hire date
Knowledge of electricity, instrumentation, schematics preferred
Knowledge of basic programmable logic controls (PLC) preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Windows operating systems.
Strong math skills and apply basic algebra and geometry.
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Ability to work any shift and weekends as required
Good communication skills, team building, team development and teamwork
OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak seasonal schedules as required.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) — must be able to read, write, and speak at an advanced level in both languages.
Valid driver license
Ability to work in a fast pace environment, excellent time management skills, self-motivated, attention to detail and accuracy, ability to multitask, great organizational skills, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Able to work in a respectful and professional manner with all levels of employees.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Work onsite and meet position’s attendance schedule, as required by the job.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
Ability to efficiently present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees, clients and customers of the organization.

WORK ENVIORNMENT:
Work to be performed in varied environments: indoors in a climate controlled environment, refrigerated cooler production facility, shipping and receiving warehouse, and outdoors in varied weather as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting and terminal use.
Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time as needed.
May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
