Reports to: VP of Warehousing, Distribution, and Fulfillment
Location: Salinas, CA with regular travel to Sonora, MX
Salary: $140,000 plus generous company bonus plan
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Director of Logistics will be based in Salinas, CA and will travel to Sonora, MX every 4-6 weeks as needed. This position reports to the Vice President of Warehousing, Distribution, and Fulfillment. This strategic position is responsible for transportation & logistics activities related to produce harvested and processed throughout our U.S. and Mexico operations. The Director of Logistics will lead, develop, and implements logistics plans and initiatives to support the company's growth. The position will further ensure our quality products are delivered efficiently and in the most cost-effective way.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Maintain business relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and carriers that results in solid, mutually beneficial collaborations that result in cost savings
- Interact and connect across multiple departments to manage expectations and demands
- Establish and implement SOP’s for the Logistics and Appointment Loading teams that reflect best approach concepts and procedures
- Develop rates and arrange contracts to maximize the potential of new business possibilities and current customer relationships
CB Logistics
- Evaluate headcount and structure of the CB Logistics team to maximum effectiveness
- Develop KPI’s that measure team performance
- Develop a freight model that illustrates revenue by lane and customer group
- Negotiate rates and arrange contracts with asset carriers looking for future growth
- Increase overall delivered sales
Appointment Loading
- Create seamless lines of communication to improve relationship with the Shipping Department
- Assess functions and duties within the department to improve its overall structure
- Review processes and create new tools to track performance and effectiveness
- Evaluate automation efforts and streamline programs for maximum efficiency
SLRC Logistics
- Lead and execute company goals to sustain increased retail and value added production derived from Mexico operations
- Monitor and assure all partnering carriers are C-TPAT certified and qualified vendors
- Develop a system to deliver finished product from SLRC facility to US Customers directly
- Conduct cost/benefit and feasibility analysis if product was hauled from SLRC to US using CB Trucking resources
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or supply chain management
- 10 or more years of experience in operational and logistics processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Essential travel to and from Salinas, CA to San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico as needed
- Comprehensive understanding of the logistics sector, including US and Mexico-based transportation and warehouse operations
- Involvement with metrics analysis and data-driven decision making
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong verbal and written communications skills for interacting with internal and external company contacts
- Ability to read/write and deliver technical information in an easily understood manner across all departments
- Adaptable, highly driven self-starter who is keen to create practical strategies and solutions to promote simplicity and flourish in a demanding environment
- Willingness and ability to work occasional long and sometimes irregular hours including weekends and holiday hours
- Compliance to fast-paced circumstances and the need o fulfill deadlines
