Job Title: Quality Assurance Supervisor
Reports To: Quality and Technical Services Manager
Location: True Leaf Farms, San Juan Bautista, CA- Yuma, AZ

Job Summary:

This position serves as a supervisor for HACCP, GMP, Organic, between all quality/food safety programs including but not limited to microbiological testing, Organic Integrity, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) programs, in-house and third party audits, quality evaluations and compliance certifications. This position supports QA management to ensure full compliance with quality and food safety regulations established by True Leaf Farms, LLC. This position rotates between shifts, working holidays and weekends, and flexible hours based on business demands.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled & Knowledgeable in GMP, produce quality programs and process.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred. Must be able to read, follow instructions, and write legibly in the English language.

  • Detail oriented and able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

  • Perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting equipment, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to perform regular tasks with hands and fingers.

  • Ability to work PM and AM shifts, weekend and holiday hours.


  1. Supervises and assures QA Technicians on the floor are meeting regulatory and company food safety polices/standards throughout all phases of the manufacturing process.

  2. Closely monitors quality and food safety parameters in accordance with specifications and SOP’s.

  3. Reports QA/Food Safety major issues to the QA Manager/VP of Technical Services.

  4. Directly supports and coordinate pre-operation inspection of the manufacturing facility. Coordinates and supervises ATP testing and environmental swabbing.

  5. Directs GMP inspections, elaborate GMP reports, and reports issues to management.

  6. Reviews HACCP documentation submitted by QA technician during the shift. Maintains records of HACCP verifications and Corrective actions. Keeps hold records for any suspected products.

  7. Enters Quality/Food Safety information into computer database in an accurate and efficient manner.

  8. Creates quality reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

  9. Elaborates full daily QA reports of discrepancies that occurred during production shifts. Follows up with product on hold and corrective actions.

  10. Manages the disposition of products on hold as directed by the QA manager.

  11. Supports QA manager with investigation of problems on the production floor and provide recommendations through root cause analysis.

  12. Encourages production employees to follow all GMP/Safety requirements at all times by leading the example. Cooperate with production supervisors and managers and ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 - Section 110, and FSMA.

  13. Leads meeting with QA technicians and provide full training based on SOP (Standard Operation Process).

  14. Trains the Plant QA Technicians at the beginning of every season and upon hiring in food safety, quality standards and good manufacturing practices.

  15. Participates in testing of new products by evaluation quality and spec tolerances.

  16. Reviews retain samples to understand better the quality performance of processed products. Reports and explains issues noted and looks for possible solutions/improvement.

  17. Adapts to other duties and responsibilities assigned by QA management without previous notice.

  18. Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of leafy greens raw materials and finished goods.

  19. Supports the QA receiving team to monitor incoming raw leafy greens. Provides full details to QA manager for final dispositions of non-conformance products.

  20. Evaluates precision and accuracy of QA testing equipment and any other analytical equipment.

  21. Assist the Quality manager in maintaining inventory of QA supplies and testing equipment.

  22. Suggests and implements changes in working conditions and use of techniques to increase efficient QA results.

  23. Analyzes and resolves problems regarding QA/Food Safety, or assists workers in solving work problems.

  24. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  25. Maintains time and production records. Supports the QA management team to achieve labor goals based on company rules.

  26. Confers with other supervisors (production, receiving, and shipping, sanitation) to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  27. Confers with workers' representatives and Human Resources to resolve any grievances. Provides weekly safety/food safety trainings.

  28. Covers QA technician positions when needed.

Education/Licenses/Certification/Formal Training:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Ag Science, Microbiology or a related field of science/or AA degree with minimum of 5 years of job experience (Same field).

  2. Three (3) to Five (5) years of related experience in a food systems or food manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility and authority; 3+ years of leadership experience strongly preferred.

  3. Experience and knowledge of fruit & fresh produce raw materials, production processes, quality control and cost management.

Essential Abilities:

  1. Up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal food safety regulations, relevant legislation, Good Management Practices (GMP) and HACCP programs.

  2. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification required.

  3. Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification strongly preferred.

  4. Skilled at performing detailed computations and preparing detailed reports. Famous Software experience preferred.

  5. Strong analytical and project management skills.

  6. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Ability to speak, write and read English.

  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  8. Must have effective organizational, planning and prioritization skills.

  9. Must have ability to use or learn the Quality/SOP compliance software.

  10. Must have personal integrity, flexibility, dependability, ability to work within policy guidelines and to work independently.

  11. Must have strong math skills and be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  12. Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  13. Seasonal travel between Yuma, AZ & San Juan, REQUIRED.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional sitting and terminal use. Ability to work in cooler environment with an average range between 33 degrees and 38+ degrees

  • Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time as needed.

  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Work to be performed in varied environments: indoors in a climate controlled environment, refrigerated cooler production facility, shipping and receiving warehouse, and outdoors in varied weather as needed.
