Salinas, CALIF (Dec. 24, 2015) – Church Brothers Farms, a leading grower/processor/shipper of more than 500 fresh vegetable SKUs, is helping an elementary school in Guanajuato, a growing region in Central Mexico where the company has a growing partnership of more than five years.

Church Brothers Farms donated money to the school because the company believes in giving back to the communities it does business in, said Brian Church, vice president of ag operations.

“When we saw the children and the school, this was simply something we had to do,” Church said.

The school’s needs were brought to the attention of Church Brothers Farms by the company’s Mexico-based farming partner, Alvaro Nieto, who participates in sustainable environmental farming practices and runs a social responsibility program locally.

“We worked with Alvaro for five years and welcomed the opportunity to give back through the program he leads,” Church said.

Church Brothers Farms grows a variety of vegetable crops in Guanajuato; the company’s operation in Mexico is part of it’s a larger strategy to provide year-round supply.

Church Brothers Farms has the same standards in Mexico for food safety and social responsibility as in the United States. The company has a food safety team in Guanajuato that enforces identical standards to the United States in addition to third-party auditors.

Additionally, the company supports its local partners in all geographies where it does business – which is why the school program made sense, Church said.

“It makes for a nice story for the holidays but it’s something we do all year-round,” he said.
